Abstinence and "The Disease Concept of Addiction" is not truly known to the purchasers of services in the statutory agencies. It has been perceived as religious, free and unprofessional. ADAS is none of these. The team at ADAS are all academically qualified to at least Diploma level before they are exposed to a caseload and then they are further trained in other models of therapeutic practice to further enhance our treatment programme. |

A structured Family programme which runs for six cnsecutive weeks, alongside the day programme. An integrated volunteer system which utilises both clients and family members alike ( PALS and CALMS). Finally a vocational guidance and training element has also been added to further help clients with their future ambitions.

All the staff are supervised internally and externally and there is regular staff development and performance appraisal. We intend to achieve "Investors in People" before the end of 1999. Thanks to everyone at ADAS for the strong commitment and dedication to the project and the clients, the depth of which is reflected in the recovery of the individuals who have accessed the service. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Patrons and Trustees as well as all the individuals and businesses that have devoted time and resources to ADAS. I would also say a big thank you to all our colleagues in the field who have encouraged and supported us.

Programme Co-ordinator
I am pleased to have been recently promoted to Program Co-ordinator at ADAS and it is with some pride that I write about the additions to the program.
The philosophy at ADAS is that Chemical Dependency has the following
key components; The ADAS program now has an extended and more intense primary element for those clients who are recently abstinent; a Second Stage for those who have been in recovery for a sufficient length of time but continue to have issues that seem overwhelming; an Aftercare group for those who have completed the Primary and Scondary; A Recovery Group where both Primary, Secondary and Aftercare members meet, with the intention of building a therapeutic community.

A systematic and confidential procedure for gathering client related information is adopted from the very first point of contact. This clinical approach is aided by each client being allocated a primary counsellor who monitors the clients progress throughout the program. The component that brings all the above to life is the relationship nurtured between the counsellor and their client. As with the clients at ADAS, the counsellors have individual assets and we attempt to match these to particular client needs. To aid this process we have employed a counselling team from various backgrounds , and actively support ongoing training and professional development, both in-house and externally. |
