CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Alcohol and Drug Abstinence Service - Breaking the chain of addiction.

It is once again a great pleasure for me to report on another excellent year of progress at ADAS. I will not repeat the comments set out in the Director's Report or those that follow, they speak for themselves and I hope they will be of great interest to you once again. We also hope that you find the Statistics useful. However, the particular Statistics which I would like to draw to your attention are those relating to After Care, Family Groups and the activities of our clients, After Treatment.

There is no doubt something very special about ADAS with the support given back after treatment to those who came to us for help in the first place.

I would particularly like to thank the Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Turner, the former Bishop of Stockport, for his support to us since we opened and welcome his successor the Rt. Rev. Nigel Stock. Also our thanks go to Ted Radcliffe who has been on the Board of Trustees from the beginning, for his contributions throughout that period and we wish him a very happy retirement and improved health.

The whole Team has continued to function extremely well into the new year and has plans for a new development which would provide shelter and accommodation to those who come homeless to our Centre. This will only be achieved, however, if we have funding secured and the Team are busily working on this at the time of writing.

None of the activities of ADAS would have been possible without the Staff under the inspiring leadership of our Director, without the funding support and without the courage and tenacity of those who came to us for help. With regard to the latter group, it is most fulfilling to see them eagerly wishing to share the benefits with their successors, they have gained from being with us.

Happily, at last, a number of Government Agencies are beginning to see the benefits of our Programme and are entering into sensible dialogue with us.

My many thanks to all those who have created such an exciting year and to you for reading this Third Annual Report.
