ANNUAL REVIEW I999/2000

This year has been dominated by activities and changes resulting from the extensive media atention due to the success of ADAS in the field of dependency and also the accreditation of ADAS as a manchester Social Services provider of day treatment to the whole of Greater Manchester and the link with the prison CARAT workers. This has enabled the ADAS team to join forces to provide comprehensive services for drug and alcohol dependent people in the North West.

ADAS is designed uniquely new DTTO's and Criminal Justice methods such as conditions fo bail and tagging. The team have worked successfully with ex-offenders who have remaind abstinent.

New management structures have been adopted to ensure that this expanding service is delivered across all areas. ADAS can provide a speedy and effective intervention to people and thier families who are on the downward spiral to hopeless despair, enabling them to be become drug and alcohol free. We have successfully avoided waiting lists and continue to offer those in contact with the service many opportunities to address and overcome their problems.

In keeping with our policy to develop and maintain high quality standards, we have achieved "Investors In People" and won a prestigious "National Training Award" through business linkwhich us amongst the forefront in the field of treatment of drug and alcohol dependency. We have utilised the QUADS system that improves the monitoring andevaluation of the programme and staff development strategies which ensures the team are well and able to implement and facilitate this professional service to our client group.

The developmentof Perceptors and Life Skills (PALS) and Community and Local Members (CALMS) has grown and the steering group formed from these strategies will ensure that service users are involved in the evaluation and development of the service. We are represented at the Drugs Reference Group Forum, Stockport and this enables us to work closely, and on behalf of, the voluntary sector in the Stockport area.

The creative arts programme is highly successful and the clie4nts work is inspirational. Aftercare is bursting with recovering people, each one represents at least five other individuals, with their families that benefit from that person's recovery, the effects of which shine through and benefit work places, education and healthier communities.

Since September 2000 we have been facing as many, if not more, challenges tahn ever before. However, we are confident that our clear vision of service development in line with the local stategy "Safer Stockport Partnership", which aims to bring together all drug and alcohol agencies in working partnerships and the national strategy "tackling Drugs Together" the government programme to strengthen efforts to reduce the demand for illegal drugs through prevention, education and treatment, will continue to steer us towards further achievemenst and even better services for our client group and their families.

In the year 2001, we are hoping to open a residence for those with no home, tolive with support, whilst on the programme and for some months after while they re-establish their lives
